"Max" - going to reach Maximum Potential!
Max was purchased from the Kyneton Saleyards. He was supposed to be 9 months old when we got him, but we believe either he was closer to 4 months, or had been so badly malnourished, that he had hardly developed. He was full of worms and lice and hardly had the energy to stand up! We had a very worrying 24 hours. However, Max in the ensuing months had grown so tall! He hasn't quite shed his coat properly (malnutrition will do that to you) but from what we can see - he will be a really lovely fine coated red roan.
Stay tuned for his progress!
Update on Dusty "Stardust"
Sadly, Dusty has passed away. Her treatment was going extremely well, so much so that she decided to leap one of our fences. As far as we can work out, she must have separated herself from the rest of the herd, and we believe she was pursued by wild dogs from the National Park.
We found her at the bottom of a nearby ravine.
From all the evidence, she died instantly. We have been unable to recover her body - due to the location of the ravine. It was a horrible and very sad day in our lives.
Dusty's History Dusty came to us through the magic of the internet! We have had Dusty since mid February 05 and each day she continues to improve. She was diagnosed with Cushings syndrome and certainly exhibited all the symptoms. We decided that her initial treatment was to trim her hooves and get her feet comfortable, whilst letting her roam our paddocks to get her moving more freely. She has been in considerable pain since we got her, but she is moving much more readily and her eyes are getting that sparkle back. We believe that it will take at least 12 months to get her feet to the point where she is pain free. To treat the Cushings, we have been allowing her free range over all the pasture, encouraging her to work for her feed. We are also ensuring she gets low sugar supplementary feeds. She has lost a little weight and we are set to add cinnamon to her feeds, which we are hoping will assist getting her endocrine system back into balance.
